The award-winning EnviroSCAN probe is the flagship product of Sentek. It provides the user with great flexibility for precision monitoring of moisture and salinity at multiple depths in a soil profile.
The EnviroSCAN probe first made its mark in irrigated agriculture, resulting in water savings of 30-50% and substantial yield and quality benefits. Today it is widely used in all forms of irrigated and dryland agriculture, environmental applications, research and education, as well as turf, parks and gardens.
The EnviroSCAN probe is the only commercially available product that allows for monitoring to great depths (up to 40 metres) using the same profiling probe.
Features include:
RTV silicon conformal coating for extra protection of circuits
Multiple sensors with flexible depth placement (at 10cm increments)
Monitoring from shallow depths (0 - 10 cm) to deep installations (> 40 metres)
Length of probe customised to suit the application (probe length adjustable in the field)
Up to 16 sensors on one probe (moisture, salinity, temperature and/or humidity)
In-built probe orientation and depth settings to enhance sensor repeatability
Full serviceability
Flexible connectivity for wide range of data retrieval options
EnviroSCAN Flat Cap Probe
Probe Sealing
The bottom of the access tube is sealed using any of:
double-ringed expandable rubber bung, providing 2 sealing points and preventing underground moisture from entering the tube,
a slurry cap, which is glued in place or
the solid, sealed Fast1 base with cutting edge
The top of the access tube is sealed with 2 different top cap designs, depending on application;
EnviroSCAN Screw Cap
Top cap protrudes above the soil surface
Easy to find and readily accessible
Tightly sealed with a rubber O-ring
Simply unscrews, giving easy access to the probe for servicing
EnviroSCAN Flat Cap
Allows for the probe to sit flush with the ground surface
Water-tight, 3 point sealing design
Provides ready access to the probe for servicing
Avoids potentially costly damage from machinery
EnviroSCAN Screw Cap Probe
Access Tubes
EnviroSCAN probes are installed into customised access tubes to allow for:
Improved sensor accuracy through precise wall thickness and diameter of access tube
Protection of sensors by avoiding direct soil contact
Specific sealing to ensure long-term operation
Full in-field serviceability without impacting on data integrity
Minimum soil disturbance during installation, leading to measurement of an undisturbed soil profile
Single Point Sensor
The single point sensor is 10.5cm (4”) in size and can measure soil moisture + temperature or soil moisture + temperature + salinity.
The sensor can be completely buried in the soil. Unlike other single point sensors, the sensor measures volumetric water content for the length of the sensor. Sentek has developed,
and continues to develop, a number of soil specific calibrations that can be applied to the data to help you make sense of the readings. Two cabling options are available, one where
the cable exits from the side of the unit, and the other where the cable exits out the top of the unit.
Currently available with the SDI-12 protocol, with applications including (but not limited to) turf, nursery, greenhouse, planted rooftops, mushroom (and truffle!) production, satellite cross-calibration and leachate monitoring
Drill & Drop Probe
The Drill & Drop is a fully encapsulated, easy to install, soil measurement probe. Probes are available in four lengths, 30cm (12") (SDI-12 only), 60cm (24”), 90cm (36") and 120cm (48”), with sensors fixed at every 10cm (4”) increment. It is also available as a single point sensor. Purchase options are any length with soil moisture + temperature sensors or soil moisture + temperature + salinity.
Due to the ease of install and protected electronics, the Drill & Drop is ideally suited to situations where a monitoring probe may need to be moved between sites in short-term and annual crops. Having the electronics completely encapsulated and able to be completely buried also makes the probe suited to long-term installations, where machinery will pass often, such as dryland and feed crops. Being able to leave the probe in the ground means long-term, uninterrupted data trends and comparison between seasons is possible.
The Drill & Drop also covers the issue of data continuity and integrity where the probe does need to be reinstalled. The ingenious tapered probe and matching auger allows direct, slurry-free, installation. This direct installation method means that the probe is measuring ‘real’ representative soil conditions immediately after install, because the surrounding soil has not been disturbed.
Features include:
Four probe length options - 30cm (12") (SDI-12 only), 60cm (24”), 90cm (36") and 120cm (48”)
Option to measure soil moisture + temperature or soil moisture + temperature + salinity at every 10cm (4") interval
Quick and easy undisturbed installation due to tapered shape
Measures the true soil profile, not slurry
Stable potting material
Able to be buried to any depth
Sentek-proven quality soil moisture and salinity measurements
Sentek-designed and owned integrated chip technology
Soil temperature resolution 0.3%
Pre-normalised sensors with in-built default calibration equation
Single point sensor and 30cm (12") probe available as SDI-12
60cm (24"), 90cm (36") and 120cm (48") probes available as Sentek SOLO, PLUS, MULTI, Modbus and SDI-12
